...for me there is a profound physiological shift happening when the sun hits my skin. Science has proven I'm not alone.
The cool breeze of the... raw, unfiltered Oklahoma air sometimes filled with dust, a pollen count too high that leaves my eyes watering. Without the morning sun, my body is off. I am off.
My mind saturated in yesterday's unfinished projects, clouded and plugged into a digital to-do list and handwritten notes reminding me of what to do.... and neither of them reminding me to step outside... breath and reset.

the SCIENCE on the body and mind effected by a sunrise
There are some mornings, I forget about the science. I walk out immediately experiencing a shift from the morning's sunrise... And there are some mornings, I walk to my desk... forgetting until I see the shift of light from dark to yellow to white from my desk. I wonder if it's cold out there? Is the pollen count high? Will my eyes water from whatever Oklahoma's vortex of weather brings? I'm already making a mental list of questions to talk myself out of the short walk from here to there; no matter how much science has proven... The morning sun's rays will shift me.
an excerpt
going back and rereading my blog... some of it sounded poetic... so I edited the blog, wrote it in poem format (see below video)... and then wanted to up load an audio. Turns out I couldn't upload an audio... it had to be in video format (see below).
Serotonin...
Melatonin...
makes me think of cancer from the sun
when it's really melanoma.
Dopamine....
maybe that's....
where the slang phrase...
that's dope, came from...
cortisol, now a C word
all these words
mixed in
with wellness posts
not telling you the upside..
only the downside...
on the flip-side
an aversion to a truths.
Cortisol... helps your body cope. Did you know that? Cortisol isn't a bad word. It's the yellow light before the red. It's savior, the safe space, the buffer.
single sided knowledge
pain points
We are the sum
of what we do and do not do
this approach disconnects us
not only from ourselves
but the intuitive within us too.
In a world, where...
woke culture now has a negative connotation
(how can that be...)
when waking up to another day is a blessed thing.
Waking up
changing your mind
resetting
recalibrating
and refining... your journey.
if MORNINGS were a dating app
If mornings were a dating app, most us of are swiping left, rolling over and saying, "I'm not a morning person", regardless of what the morning sun and serotonin can bring to your table; many don't want to eat. Exposure to the morning's sunlight triggers and releases serotonin. It doesn't take 10 laps around a gym, interval sprints, a strict diet of food or lifting weights 4 to 5 times a week... It won't take 8 weeks to see the results from getting up, walking outside and plugging into the sun.
other benefits...
regulate sleep-wake cycles.
controlling appetite and satiety.
cognitive functions, learning and memory.
regulate blood pressure and blood clotting.
contributes to gut health and digestion.
the Warrior hormone
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter and a warrior hormone. It's crucial to how our body finds beauty when our mind cannot. It changes how we see and feel the world. Serotonin regulates the ebbs and flows of our moods. It's the feel-good neurotransmitter.
Serotonin is a neurotransmitter and a warrior hormone. It's crucial to how our body finds beauty when our mind cannot. It changes how we see and feel the world. Serotonin regulates the ebbs and flows of our moods. It's the feel-good neurotransmitter; it should be the one having you come back for more... But like any good thing, it takes time to register... to rewire your brain to lean into the good and erase the feeling the feeling that the glass ceiling will crash or the floor will fall out beneath you.
If you're even reading this... you've probably experienced enough trauma that has had you in a hypervigilant state of being. Seeing beyond this cycle can be hard. It will take mental rewiring, rewriting your memories through reframing your experiences... Starting with resetting with experiencing your sunrises is the easiest place to begin.

I hope you've enjoyed this blog. It's been difficult to blend science with your own voice and not loose your personal expression. Showing up weekly and figuring it out is part of the process.
Please share and rate this blog. The more I do, the better I become at bringing alternative practices and holistic modalities onto the written page.
